Department of Construction Management and Real Estate

The Department of Construction Management and Real Estate was established in 1984 with the aim of providing high-standard education and conduct world-class academic research on theories and technologies related to construction management. The department has passed the Undergraduate Education Assessment led by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China for three consecutive times. In 2019, the department has been enrolled into the National Program of First-class Undergraduate Education.


The department aims to provide high-standard education for both undergraduate and graduate students. The overall teaching system emphasizes on theoretical and practical knowledge of civil engineering, construction management, real estate development, economics, laws and information technologies. After graduation, students are expected to have sufficient capabilities to work for a wide range of organizations, including governmental departments, consulting firms, real estate and construction company and etc. The main department specialties are as follows:

1) The teaching curriculum has been actively maintained and optimized to cope with the advances in construction management and real estate, such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), prefabricated buildings and sustainable construction.

2) The department holds various academic competitions in BIM and real estate development. Students are encouraged to participate in academic competitions for all-around self-development.

3) The department has developed various exchange programs for internationalization, especially with universities in Hong Kong, Australia and USA.

4) The department has developed micro-discipline courses on real estate development. The micro-discipline aims to cultivate students with high-level real estate-related knowledge on laws, planning, economics, assessment, data mining and policies.

5) Together with the China BIM union and the Swinburne University of Technology, the department established the Sino-Australia Joint Research Center in BIM and Smart Construction in 2017. The platform has been used to provide novel approaches for the education and research on advanced technologies for construction management and sustainable development. It also provides students with a wide range of opportunities for oversea studies.


The department consists of 21 full-time academic staffs, including 3 professors, 10 associate professors and 8 assistant professors. The department faculties have been actively involved in high-quality scientific research, especially on the advanced technologies for sustainable development. In the past five years, the academic faculties have published approximately 150 high-standard journal papers and led over 30 research projects ranging from national to municipal levels.
